Mother Nature has not been on the Cubs’ side this season. But even though they’ve had the fewest games in the league this season, they are on a record winning streak. Monday’s 3-2 win over Colorado marked the Cubs’ fifth straight victory while scoring three or fewer runs.

Not only is this a first for the Cubs, this is the first time it has happened in baseball since 2011. The streak has also earned them the first-place spot in the National League Central going into May.
Credit for this success has to go to the six starting staff. Jon Lester and his exceptional pitching have yet to give up in an earned run. In the last five games, the Cubs have allowed only four runs ad 21 hits total.
Up until now the No. 3 ranked bullpen in the NL had been carrying the team. Carl Edwards Jr. has been essential in the eighth and ninth innings with 18 strikeouts to five walks.
Javier Baez and Albert Amora Jr. have also contributed consistent hits and zero walks between them.
The Cubs are familiar with the first-place title. In 2016 and 2017 they also concluded May at #1.
