The College Park Skyhawks 2022 Open Tryouts

Ninety players were in attendance to compete for an invitation to the Skyhawks’ training camp at the end of October.

Head Coach Steve Gansey was in attendance to evaluate participating players. He said they aren’t looking for guys that are just scorers; they’re looking at everything.

“The one thing that’s always expected is for guys to play hard with energy and effort. More importantly, just playing the right way. You want to showcase being a good teammate and making the right play. I like these guys to play to their strengths and play their game, said Gansey.

Last year’s tryouts produced Malik Ellison, who signed a 10-day contract with the Hawks, and First Team All-G League Justin Tillman, who recently signed a contract with the Denver Nuggets.

Also present at the open tryouts was General Manager Tori Miller. She became the G League’s first African American woman to hold her position.

Says Miller; it’s extra special, being that I am from Atlanta. It’s great to see the development on this side of the community; we’re just here to help continue to drive that.

The College Park Skyhawks will welcome fans back to Gateway Center Arena @ College Park on Friday, November 4, when the club hosts the Long Island Nets.

“No two seasons are the same. Each team has its own DNA. We’re excited to build this roster and help these guys accomplish their goals and be successful as a team, said Miller.
