Rhyne Howard Lead Atlanta To A 77-75 Victory Over LA

In front of a sold-out crowd of 3,138 the Atlanta Dream defeated the LA Sparks 77-75 in their home opener on Wednesday evening at Gateway Center Arena.

Atlanta’s starting five was Erica Wheeler, Kristy Wallace, Ryhne Howard, Nia Coffee and Cheynne Parker.

In other news, after a dramatic, chaotic season that ended with a suspension due to “conduct detrimental to the team,” former Dream standout Chennedy Carter returned to the court this time wearing a Sparks uniform and remained scoreless on Wednesday night.

Early in the fourth Atlanta was able to pull away from LA with a 10 point lead, but it was in the final seconds that the Sparks slash the deficit to two points. With missed opportunities from the LA, Howard grabbed a rebound to seal the win for the Dream.

Atlanta had four players in double digit. Rookie sensation Rhyne Howard led Atlanta is scoring 21 points, and 8 rebounds, in her home debut.

Megan Wallace added 11 points, while Cheyenne Parker and Kristy Wallace rounded off the scoring efforts with 10 points a piece. With the win Atlanta snapped the Sparks eight game winning steak in the series between the two teams, and a four game streak for the Sparks when playing Atlanta.

Up Next: The Dream is now 2-0 this season, their first 2-0 start since 2017. Atlanta will return to home court Friday May 15, when the team face the Las Vegas Aces at Gateway Center Arena. Tip-off is at 7:30.
