The NBA G League announced today that College Park Skyhawks Head Coach Steve Gansey was named NBA G League Coach of the Month for the month of March.
Gansey led the Skyhawks to a 11-2 record during March, the most wins and highest winning percentage (.846) in the league during the month. The Skyhawks went 13-2 from March 1 to the final game of the regular season on April 2. College Park was top-three in the league in points per game (122.6 – second), three-point field goal percentage (.390 – third), turnovers per game (12.3 – first), offensive rating (118.1 – third), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.14 – second), and true shooting percentage (.621 – second) during that time.
The Skyhawks started the month of March 2-2 before closing the month on a nine-game winning streak. The streak currently stands at a G League season-high 11 games, the longest streak in team history. It also marks Gansey’s longest winning streak in his head coaching career (previously Fort Wayne – eight games in November 2017).
The Skyhawks’ run in March helped the team clinch a spot in the NBA G League Playoffs for the first time in team history.
This marks the second time that Gansey has earned G League Coach of the Month honors (November 2016), and the first time as head coach of the Skyhawks. He was hired as head coach of the College Park Skyhawks on Aug. 4, 2021, following five seasons as the head coach of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
The Skyhawks face off against the Capital City Go-Go in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday night in the first round of the NBA G League Playoffs. The game can be viewed on NBAGLeague.com at 7 p.m. ET.
