In the fight for social injustice and systemic racism, over 100 Black Major League Soccer players raised a gloved fist during a pregame 8 minutes and 46 seconds long protest inĀ a tribute to George Floyd, who was murdered at the hands of police in Minnesota.

According to Tennesseean, Toronto FC fullback Justin Morrow said the protest’s message is “purely about standing up for our brothers and sisters in this fight for racial equality and human rights.”
Hometown team Atlanta United was placed in Group E alongside FC Cincinnati, New York Red Bulls and Columbus Crew SC. The team will open the tournament Saturday, July 11 against New York Red Bulls (8:00 p.m. EST, FOX), followed by FC Cincinnati on Thursday, July 16 (9:00 a.m. EST, ESPN) and Columbus Crew SC on Tuesday, July 21 (8:00 p.m. EST, TUDN).

After having two players test positive for COVID-19 last month, Atlantaās fullback Brooks Lennon has no concerns about health and safety.
āI think, hopefully, everyone is still testing negative on a regular basis. We can go into these games with full confidence and safety.āĀ said Brooks Lennon on a Zoom call Wednesday.
Lennon also said that their goal in Florida is to win.
