Kobe Bryant, daughter Gianna laid to rest in private funeral

Legendary, LA Lakers icon Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna “Gigi” Bryant, was laid to rest at a private funeral held at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar, California, on Friday, February 7.

Bryant’s wife Vanessa posted on Instagram an emotional tribute to Kobe and Gigi, “My brain refuses to accept that both Kobe and Gigi are gone. I can’t process both at the same time. It’s like I’m trying to process Kobe being gone but my body refuses to accept my Gigi will never come back to me. It feels wrong.”

A public memorial service is planned for February 24 at Staples Center, with a symbolic date for both Kobe and Gigi. February the second month, represents Gigi’s No. 2 jersey.  The day, 24, is Kobe Bryant’s jersey number. The year 20 represents the 20 years Kobe played with the LA Lakers.

Kobe and Gigi tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash with two of Gigi’s teammates — Alyssa Altobelli and Payton Chester, along with Alyssa’s parents, John and Keri Altobelli, and Payton’s mother, Sarah Chester. Christina Mauser, the girls’ basketball coach at Mamba Sports Academy, and the pilot, Ara Zobayan was also killed, while traveling to a youth basketball tournament Gigi and her teammates was playing in on Jan. 26.
