Gladiators fall short in close battle with the Icemen

With contributions of their defense and goalie Sean Bonar the Gladiators gained their second straight win after defeating  the Swamp Rabbits 3-1 on Wednesday

It was announced early Friday that Gladiators forward Tommy Marchin was recalled to the Providence Bruins (AHL). Marchin was Atlanta’s team leader in points and goals. He is the seventh member of the Gladiators to move up to Providence this season. Marchin was also sixth in the ECHL among rookies and tied for second in goals among first-year players.

The Gladiators returned home Friday evening to take on the Jacksonville Icemen at Infinity Energy Arena.

.39 seconds into the 1st period the Icemen Mike Hedden strike the first goal.

At 8:20 Icemen Alexis D’Aouist scored the team’s second goal, then shortly after at  12:44 Garrett Ross tripled the score with another goal leaving the Glads scoreless.

Moving into the 2nd period the Glads remained scoreless.

Late in the 2nd period Avery Peterson scored the Glads first score for night, assisted by Scott Conway and Eric Neiley.

With one minute left in the 2nd period Nick Bligh scored another goal.

Jacksonville Garett Ross scored a goal to break the tie and take the 4-3 lead

Even with the 6-on-4 advantage, Atlanta could not find the back of the net again. 

The Glads are on the road Saturday night to face the Norfolk Admirals. The team will be back at home Saturday, December 21st on Holly Jolly Hockey Christmas night, to square off with the Orlando Solar Bears. The puck drops at 7:05 PM.
