The Atlanta Hawks opened the preseason with a 109-133 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday at State Farm Arena.
At the post game presser, head coach Lloyd Pierce opening statement was, “First game in the books. Preseason game number one, everything I expected. I don’t know about you guys. Sloppy, a lot of turnovers, high scoring, not very good defense on both sides. A lot of fouls. Preseason.”

DeAndre’ Bembry led the team in scoring 16 points. After the game he spoke on the team’s chemistry: “I think it’s growing. We’ve obviously been with each other all summer, trying to learn, but it’s different when you’re actually out here playing with a whole different team and you don’t know what they’re doing. I think it was good for us coming out here and just taking the loss and being able to learn from it.”
