ATLANTA – The Atlanta Dream have signed center Mengran Sun to a training camp contract, the team announced Friday.
Sun, a 6-6 center from China, is currently playing for Bayi Kylin in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association. She is averaging 12.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 22.8 minutes per game this season. Her team is matched up with Guangdong in the WCBA Finals this week. She recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds in today’s Game 2 victory.
“We are thrilled to add Mengran Sun to our Training Camp roster,” head coach Nicki Collen said. “Her combination of size and skill will allow her to play both post positions. Mengran is a legitimate three-point threat, who is also incredibly active in transition and around the rim.”
The 26-year old is now a veteran playing for the Chinese National Team. She has averaged 8.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists over seven senior-level competitions. Sun made a big impression at the 2016 Olympic Games where she led her team in points (12.4) and rebounds (5.0) in five games.
