FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons continue to make moves as training camp rolls along, adding some additional depth on both sides of the offense.
The Falcons have signed tight end Nick Muse and running back Trey Sermon, bringing two experienced players into the mix as competition for roster spots continues ahead of the 2026 season.
Muse joins Atlanta after originally being selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round with the 227th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of South Carolina.
The Belmont, North Carolina, native appeared in 16 games during his time with Minnesota and has also spent time with the Detroit Lions, New York Jets, Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals.
Before entering the NFL, Muse played five collegiate seasons between William & Mary and South Carolina. He finished his college career with 101 receptions for 1,303 yards, giving Atlanta another experienced option in its tight end room.
In corresponding roster moves, the Falcons waived/injured wide receiver Le’Meke Brockington and linebacker Malik Verdon.
Atlanta also added another familiar face to the running back room with the signing of Sermon, a Marietta, Georgia, native who returns home with five seasons of NFL experience under his belt.
Sermon was originally selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round with the 88th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Ohio State.
Since entering the league, Sermon has spent time with the 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers. Through five seasons, he has appeared in 46 games with five starts, rushing 134 times for 505 yards and three touchdowns. He has also contributed in the passing game with 22 receptions for 138 yards.
Before turning pro, Sermon played at Oklahoma from 2017-19 before transferring to Ohio State for the 2020 season. Across 45 collegiate games, he rushed for 2,946 yards and 26 touchdowns on 455 carries while adding 486 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
For Sermon, the opportunity comes with a little hometown flavor as the former Cobb County standout gets a chance to compete for a roster spot with his hometown NFL team.
With preseason approaching and roster battles heating up in Flowery Branch, the additions of Muse and Sermon give the Falcons more veteran depth and competition as Atlanta continues evaluating its roster ahead of the regular season.
