On Tuesday, I attended the Power Her Dreams Girls’ Basketball Clinic at J.M. Tull Gwinnett YMCA, and the energy was high from start to finish.
With more than 250 girls registered, the gym was filled with excitement, smiles and young hoopers ready to show what they could do. From the youngest and smallest ballers to the older girls working on their game, everyone had a chance to step on the court, show off their skills and be part of something special.
And let’s just say — they did not disappoint.
The clinic was more than basketball. It created confidence, leadership and dreams in motion. The girls worked through drills, competed, learned and supported one another throughout the day. After the clinic, participants were also recognized with awards, making the experience even more memorable.
Throughout the 2026 WNBA season, the Atlanta Dream will host 20 free, all-girls basketball clinics across metro Atlanta, with the goal of impacting at least 1,500 girls. The clinics highlight the Dream’s continued commitment to community impact, growing the game and empowering girls and women through sport.
The Power Her Dreams clinics combine high-quality basketball skill development with real-life empowerment tools. Girls ages 6-14 can participate and learn basketball fundamentals while also building confidence, courage and leadership skills.
“Our mission is to grow the game of basketball while empowering girls to be leaders, on and off the court,” said Aisha Greenlee, Atlanta Dream director of community impact.
Each clinic includes a welcome and warm-up session, skills stations, team scrimmages or competition games by skill level, and empowerment moments. On the court, participants are led by Atlanta Dream-trained youth coaches, focusing on technique, agility and game IQ.
The empowerment moments focus on building confidence, courage and community — values that were on full display at the J.M. Tull Gwinnett YMCA clinic.
The Dream continues to break barriers and create opportunities for young girls in sports, and Power Her Dreams is another example of how the organization is pouring into the next generation.
For the girls in Gwinnett, it was a day full of basketball, confidence, leadership and memories they won’t forget.
