Atlanta United is navigating another offseason change, announcing today that Director of High Performance Dave Tenney has departed the club to join Real Salt Lake. As part of the move, Atlanta United received compensation for Tenney’s release.
Tenney joined the 5-Stripes in December 2024 after coming over from Austin FC, bringing with him an extensive background in performance and sports science across MLS and the NBA. While his time in Atlanta was brief, his résumé reflected years of experience at the highest levels of professional sports.
With Tenney’s departure, Atlanta United will immediately begin a search for his replacement. In the meantime, Chief Medical Officer Dr. R. Amadeus Mason will oversee the club’s medical department on a day-to-day basis, ensuring continuity as the organization transitions through this change.
Before arriving in Atlanta, Tenney spent four seasons with Austin FC from 2020 to 2024. Prior to that, he worked three years with the NBA’s Orlando Magic from 2017 to 2020. His MLS roots run deep, with a combined 11 seasons split between Seattle Sounders from 2009 to 2017 and Sporting Kansas City from 2007 to 2008.
As Atlanta United continues reshaping both its roster and its staff this offseason, the focus remains on building a high-performance environment that supports players on and off the pitch—while preparing for what’s next in the club’s evolving chapter.
