Gladiators Ride the Momentum, Deliver Star Wars Night Shutout at Gas South Arena

That momentum carried right into Saturday night at Gas South Arena, where the Atlanta Gladiators delivered one of their most complete and memorable performances of the season.

Under the glow of lightsabers and the roar of a sellout-feeling crowd, the Gladiators put on a show worthy of Star Wars Night, shutting out the Greensboro Gargoyles 3–0 to earn their fifth straight win and seventh consecutive victory on home ice. The win pushed Atlanta to 21 victories on the season and continued a stretch of hockey that has the team firing on all cylinders.

The opening period set the tone for a special night. Fans packed the building in Star Wars gear, creating an electric atmosphere as Atlanta welcomed Jack O’Brien and Nolan Orzeck for their home debuts in a Gladiators sweater. Greensboro applied early pressure, but goaltender T.J. Semptimphelter was locked in from the opening faceoff, calmly turning aside quality chances and keeping the game scoreless through a fast-paced first 20 minutes.

Atlanta broke through in the second period, and fittingly, it came from a newcomer. At 5:16, O’Brien netted his second goal as a Gladiator, finishing a clean setup from Ryan Conroy and Andrew Jarvis to ignite the crowd. The momentum kept building when Ethan Scardina doubled the lead at 10:20, snapping a perfectly placed wrist shot past the goaltender with assists from Mickey Burns and Ryan Francis. The Gladiators carried a 2–0 advantage into the intermission after a physical, disciplined frame that featured no penalties until a late double minor assessed to Greensboro.

The third period brought even more drama. Semptimphelter was forced to leave the game due to an equipment issue, sending Ethan Haider into the crease. Haider answered the call immediately, stopping all six shots he faced and helping kill off a penalty as Greensboro pressed to get back into the game. Semptimphelter later returned to finish the night, but not before Haider’s calm presence preserved the shutout.

Physicality ramped up as the clock wound down, highlighted by a late fight between Artyom Borshyov and Ryan Nolan that brought the crowd to its feet and capped an emotional night at Gas South Arena.

With Greensboro’s net empty in the final minutes, Atlanta put an exclamation point on the win. Joey Cipollone buried a stunning empty-net slapshot from a tough angle, sealing the 3–0 victory and sending the building into celebration.

Because Semptimphelter stopped 30 shots and Haider went a perfect 6-for-6 in relief, the shutout officially belongs to the team — a fitting reflection of Atlanta’s collective effort. The Gladiators finished the night 0-for-4 on the power play and a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill, showcasing their defensive discipline during their fifth straight win.

From debut goals to clutch goaltending and a relentless defensive effort, the Gladiators once again showed their identity. On a night filled with lightsabers, intensity and energy, the Force was clearly with Atlanta as the Gladiators skated off the ice victorious.
