The Atlanta Falcons continue to shuffle the roster, announcing the additions of kicker Ben Sauls and wide receiver Deven Thompkins to the practice squad.
Sauls, fresh out of Pittsburgh, signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL Draft. He saw action in all three preseason games, connecting on 5-of-6 field goals and going a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points. The Tipp City, Ohio, native was a steady presence for the Panthers during his college career, appearing in 53 games across five seasons (2020-24). He converted 81.3 percent of his field goals (52-of-64), including a long of 58 yards. In 2024, his senior season, Sauls led the team in scoring with 107 points, going 21-of-24 on field goals (87.5 percent) and hitting all 44 extra-point attempts.
Thompkins brings NFL experience to the practice squad after stops with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers. Originally signed by Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent in 2022, the Utah State product has appeared in 29 career games with two starts. Over three seasons (2022-24), he’s tallied 26 receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown while also contributing 12 rushes for 89 yards. At Utah State, Thompkins left his mark by setting single-season school records in receptions (102) and receiving yards (1,704) in 2021.
The Falcons will look to Sauls and Thompkins to provide depth as the team continues navigating the grind of the regular season
Next up, Atlanta returns home to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to take on the Washington Commanders on Sunday, September 28. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
