The Atlanta Hawks have added two new faces to the roster, officially signing forward Javan (JAY-vin) Johnson and guard Dwight Murray Jr., the team announced today. As always, per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Johnson brings plenty of pro experience to Atlanta. The 6’6” forward has played the past two seasons in the NBA G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors, where he averaged 11.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists across 97 games (69 starts). He also suited up for the Hawks during the NBA 2K26 Summer League in Las Vegas, averaging 7.3 points and 3.7 boards in three appearances. Beyond the G League, Johnson spent two years overseas with Gladiadores de Anzoátegui in Venezuela’s SLB.
Before turning pro, the Decatur, Alabama native enjoyed a five-year collegiate career, making stops at Troy, Iowa State, and DePaul. In 127 games (96 starts), Johnson averaged 9.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per contest.
Murray Jr. is no stranger to the Hawks organization either, having appeared in 43 games with the College Park Skyhawks last season. The 6’0” guard posted 9.0 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in nearly 24 minutes per game. He also competed in Summer League action with Atlanta, adding 4.3 points per game in limited minutes.
Undrafted in 2023, Murray Jr. launched his pro career overseas with KK Mornar in Montenegro, where he gained valuable experience across three leagues—Liga ABA, Europe Cup, and BLC Qual—averaging 9.1 points and 3.2 assists.
A native of Austell, Georgia, Murray Jr. played five seasons of college basketball at Incarnate Word and Rider. He appeared in 145 games (114 starts), posting career numbers of 12.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. In his final season (2022-23), he earned All-MAAC First Team honors after leading Rider with his scoring and playmaking.
With Johnson’s size and versatility, paired with Murray Jr.’s playmaking and local ties, the Hawks continue to build depth and keep the roster #TrueToAtlanta.
