The Atlanta Dream improved to 2-0 with their starting lineup of Jordin Canada, Allisha Gray, Maya Caldwell, Naz Hillmon, and Brionna Jones, defeating the Washington Mystics 99-83 Sunday afternoon at Gateway Center Arena. With the win, Atlanta moves to 32-34 all-time against Washington, including 18-14 at home, and secures the regular season series 3-1.
The Dream had a sluggish start, trailing 12-23 in the first quarter before finding their rhythm. Allisha Gray etched her name into WNBA history, surpassing 400 career three-pointers to become the 37th player ever to reach the milestone. She finished with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists — her 12th 20-point game of the season.
Brionna Jones led Atlanta with a season-high 23 points, along with 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Naz Hillmon added her second double-double of the year, recording 14 points, a season-high 13 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks. Jordin Canada contributed 16 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals, while Nia Coffey came off the bench for 15 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal — surpassing 1,200 career points. Rookie Te-Hina Paopao provided 7 points, 5 assists, and a team-best +22 plus/minus in 32 minutes.
In the third quarter, Jones came out firing, scoring inside off a Hillmon feed, then adding multiple finishes and a three-pointer to push the Dream ahead. Hillmon connected from deep, while Caldwell hit a midrange jumper. Jones capped the quarter with an and-one and another triple off a Canada assist as Atlanta outscored Washington 31-20 to build a double-digit lead.
In the final period, Canada knocked down her first three of the night, assisted by Gray, before Coffey connected from beyond the arc. Canada followed with an and-one, then Coffey added another triple as the Dream pulled away. Coffey scored 10 of her 15 points in the fourth, including two clutch threes, while Gray and Paopao added key buckets in the paint. Atlanta shot a perfect 100% from the free-throw line in the quarter and 90% from the stripe in the second half, finishing 78.3% at the line and 56.3% from the field overall.
The Dream set a season-high with 99 points and had five players in double figures for the 11th time this season: Jones (23), Gray (22), Canada (16), Coffey (15), and Hillmon (14). After trailing by double digits early, Atlanta outscored Washington 87-60 the rest of the way, fueled by efficient shooting and a dominant paint presence.
Up Next: The Dream now head out for a three-game road trip, facing the Chicago Sky on August 7, the Phoenix Mercury on August 10, and the Seattle Storm on August 13.
