Trae Young Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

The Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from February 3 through February 9, the NBA announced today. This marks Young’s first Player of the Week honor this season and the eighth of his career.

During the four-game span, Young delivered stellar performances, averaging 31.3 points, 10.5 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game while leading the Hawks to a 3-1 record. Notably, two of those victories came against teams with records of .500 or better. He was one of only two players in the league to average at least 30.0 points and 10.0 assists and the only player to do so while appearing in four games.

Young thrived in clutch situations, scoring 16 points across three games, tying for the second-most clutch points in the league for the week. He shot an impressive 55.6% from the field in those critical moments, the highest percentage in the NBA among players with at least nine field goal attempts. His plus-minus of +6 in clutch minutes ranked first in the Eastern Conference and tied for third across the league.

The seventh-year guard ranked among the top five in the East in several categories this past week, including points per game (31.3), assists per game (10.5), made field goals per game (10.3), and made free throws per game (7.3). He was the only player in the conference to rank top five in all four categories.

This season, Young continues to solidify his reputation as one of the league’s premier playmakers. He leads the NBA in point-assist double-doubles (31) and 30-point, 10-assist games (10) while topping the Eastern Conference in 20-point, 10-assist performances (22). His 87 career games with 30 or more points and 10 or more assists rank fourth in NBA history.

Thanks to Young’s leadership, the Hawks are averaging 29.2 assists per game—the most in the East and third-most in the league. The team is on track to set a franchise record for assists per game in a single season, surpassing the previous mark of 27.1 set during the 1960-61 season. Through 53 games, Atlanta has recorded 30 or more assists 26 times, the most in franchise history for a single season.

Young’s standout week included a dominant 35-point, 14-assist performance against the Washington Wizards, leading the Hawks to a decisive 125-111 victory on February 8. That game marked his 31st double-double of the season, further showcasing his immense impact on the court.

With Young at the helm, the Hawks continue to be a force in the Eastern Conference. Fans can expect even more thrilling performances as the season progresses.
