Skyhawks Fall to Blue Coats in Close Contest, Suffering First Loss of the Season

The College Park Skyhawks (4-1) saw their undefeated streak come to an end with a hard-fought 108-101 loss to the Delaware Blue Coats (1-4) on Sunday, closing out a four-game homestand.

Dominick Barlow led the charge for the Skyhawks, delivering an impressive performance with 19 points on 7-13 shooting (.538 FG%), six rebounds, one assist, and one block in 33 minutes. Barlow has been a standout in his first four games with the team, averaging 21.5 points (.611 FG%, .910 FT%), 9.3 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks.

Kevon Harris notched his first double-double since February 2, 2024, and the seventh of his NBA G League career, contributing 11 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal in 30 minutes of play.

For the second time this season, six Skyhawks scored in double figures. Joining Barlow were Jordan Bowden (17 points), Daeqwon Plowden (12 points), and a trio of players—Jarkel Joiner, Harris, and Mouhamed Gueye—who each added 11 points.

The Blue Coats came out strong, jumping to an early 8-0 lead fueled by a three-pointer from Lester Quinones and a three-point play from Judah Mintz, closing the first quarter ahead 33-29. Bowden kept the Skyhawks in contention, scoring 10 of his 17 points in the opening frame.

College Park briefly claimed the lead in the second quarter, powered by 16 combined points from bench players Plowden, Dwight Murray Jr., Joey Hauser, and David Singleton. However, Delaware countered with a 13-5 run to end the half, heading into the break with a 63-56 advantage.

The third quarter was a rollercoaster, with both teams exchanging leads. Delaware built a double-digit cushion before the Skyhawks surged back to claim a four-point lead. The Blue Coats responded with a dominant 20-10 run to close the quarter, holding an 88-80 edge heading into the final frame.

Delaware extended their lead to 11 points midway through the fourth quarter, but the Skyhawks mounted a late rally, trimming the deficit to 98-97 with under four minutes remaining. Barlow sparked the comeback with six quick points, supported by Bowden’s contributions.

Despite the surge, Delaware sealed the win with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes, extending their lead to nine points with contributions from four different players. The Blue Coats maintained their momentum to secure the 108-101 victory.

Darius Bazley led the Blue Coats with a dominant performance, tallying a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, along with three steals, two assists, and two blocks in 26 minutes off the bench.

The Skyhawks now hit the road for a two-game trip, facing the Greensboro Swarm on November 20 at 11 a.m. and the Swarm again on November 22 at 7 p.m. They will return home to Gateway Center Arena @ College Park on November 26 at 7 p.m. to face the Long Island Nets.
