Atlanta Falcons’ Senior Vice President of Community Engagement and Sports Philanthropy, Chris Millman, has been honored as the team’s nominee for the 2024 Salute to Service Award, presented by USAA. This annual NFL award recognizes individuals within the NFL family who demonstrate exceptional dedication to honoring, empowering, and connecting with the military community. Millman’s extensive leadership and commitment have solidified his reputation as a significant figure in supporting military members and their families.
Under Millman’s leadership, the Falcons have cultivated a longstanding partnership with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), an organization dedicated to supporting families grieving the loss of a loved one who served in the military. For over ten years, Millman has helped facilitate Falcons-hosted events and trips for TAPS families, providing them with VIP experiences at games in Atlanta and international locations. His efforts have also included personal visits to military bases across the United States, with trips to installations in Washington, Arizona, and Florida. Additionally, the Falcons have maintained a tradition of visiting wounded service members and their families at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Millman’s impact extends beyond events and visits; he played a pivotal role in creating the Falcons’ Veterans Community Fund, an associate-led committee that distributes $1 million annually in grants to initiatives that help veterans transition to civilian life. This committee, led by Falcons employees with close ties to the military, embodies the organization’s commitment to empowering veterans after their service.
Internationally, Millman has spearheaded team trips to visit U.S. troops stationed abroad, with destinations including Bulgaria, Germany, Guam, Hawaii, Iraq, Kuwait, and Romania. Through these visits, players, executives, and staff have been able to directly engage with and uplift military communities around the world. Most recently, Millman led the Falcons in awarding the USO a $1 million grant to expand USO centers on U.S. aircraft carriers, a project that will significantly enhance support for service members deployed at sea.
In a special opportunity for fans, voting will play a role in selecting the NFL’s overall Salute to Service Award winner. Beginning November 1, fans can visit nfl.com/salutefanvote to cast their votes for Millman or other nominees.
The voting process will run throughout November, with finalists chosen through a combination of fan votes, an NFL internal committee, and USAA. The Salute to Service panel will then select one overall league winner from among the three finalists.
Through Millman’s visionary leadership, the Falcons have not only supported the military community but also inspired fans and team members alike to contribute to these meaningful initiatives. His efforts continue to set a high standard for service and engagement, reflecting the Falcons’ and the NFL’s commitment to honoring those who serve and sacrifice.
