Sabrina Ionescu stepped up when it mattered most, hitting a game-winning 28-foot 3-pointer with just a second remaining to give the New York Liberty an 80-77 victory over the Minnesota Lynx. The win puts the Liberty up 2-1 in the WNBA Finals, just one game away from securing their first-ever title. Ionescu’s clutch shot came after Breanna Stewart carried New York through most of the game, scoring 22 of her 30 points in the second half to help erase a 15-point deficit.
Stewart’s dominant performance was key, but it was Ionescu’s late-game heroics that sealed the win. With the game tied at 77, Ionescu found just enough separation to launch her deep shot, giving the Liberty a crucial edge in the series.
Minnesota put up a strong fight, with Napheesa Collier scoring 22 points and Kayla McBride adding 19. Despite leading by 10 points late in the third quarter, the Lynx couldn’t hold off New York’s comeback. Jonquel Jones also contributed to the Liberty’s late surge with key points down the stretch, and Stewart’s relentless scoring helped New York claw back into the game.
Next up: The Liberty will now head into Game 4 on Friday night in Minnesota with a chance to secure their first WNBA championship.
