Patrick Mahomes Shines as Chiefs Win Super Bowl LVIII

Patrick Mahomes once again showed why he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a thrilling victory in Super Bowl LVIII over the San Francisco 49ers. The 28 year old was simply unstoppable, using his cannon of an arm and lightning quick release to pick apart the defense.

Mahomes made big plays in crucial moments to lift his team to victory, but the first two quarters before Atlanta’s own Usher’s big performance, San Francisco defense kept Kansas City offense distracted and at the half Kyle Shanahan’s team led the Chiefs 10-3.

49ers’ Brick Purdy led a drive that ended in a field goal and San Francisco on top 19-16.  With two minutes left in final regulation. Mahomes completed a clutch pass to get his team in field goal range. His perfectly placed throws gave his receivers opportunities for extra yards after the catch. With just seconds left on the clock, the Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker nailed a long field goal to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, Mecole Hardman caught a pass from Mahomes to give the Chiefs the epic win. Mahomes finished with completing 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

The former Texas Tech, was also named Super Bowl LIV and LVII MVP, is the third player ever to win three Super Bowl Most Valuable Player awards, joining Tom Brady (five) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Montana (three). He is the third player ever to be named Super Bowl MVP in consecutive seasons, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers Bart Starr (Super Bowls I and II) and Terry Bradshaw (Super Bowls XIII and XIV). Mahomes is the fifth quarterback with at least three Super Bowl titles, joining Brady (seven) as well as Pro Football Hall of Famers Bradshaw (four), Montana (four) and Troy Aikman (three).

A few other Kansas City players also made history. Isiah Pacheco, becoming the first starting RB to win 2 Super Bowls in first 2 seasons. George Karlaft became the first starting DL to win 2 Super Bowls in first 2 seasons, and Trent McDuffie became the 3rd starting CB to win 2 Super Bowls in the first 2 seasons.

“It’s legendary. No one’s ever done it, and we knew it’s legendary to win back to back,” Mahomes said. … “We got to continue to play our best football. We’ll celebrate these next few weeks, and then we’ll get right back at it.”

This is the 33rd time that a quarterback has been named Super Bowl Most Valuable Player. Mahomes recorded his 15th career postseason win, trailing only Brady (35) and Montana (16) for the most postseason wins by a quarterback all-time.

The MVP continues to prove he has the skill, mental toughness, and clutch gene required to lead Kansas City to multiple championships. After an uneven performance for most of the game, Mahomes persevered and came through when it mattered most. That is the true mark of a champion.

“Is it a dynasty?’ I don’t know what a dynasty is. You guys you have the thesaurus, you figure it out.” said coach Andy Reid.

The future remains blindingly bright for Mahomes and these Kansas City Chiefs. This dynasty looks poised to compete for championships for years to come behind the arm of their young superstar quarterback.
