Atlanta’s Professional Volleyball Team Unveiled as the Atlanta Vibe

ATLANTA, Ga. (August 4, 2023) – The Atlanta Vibe was officially announced today as the name of Atlanta’s professional women’s volleyball team as a part of the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF).

The announcement was made today in front of 500+ fans, VIPs, business and civic leaders at the Atlantic Station near downtown Atlanta. Fourteen of the team’s players, the full coaching staff, leadership team and staff were in attendance. Team owner Colleen Craig, PVF CEO Jen Spicher, CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber Nick Masino, Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) CEO Al Lau, along with host Kele Eveland, all spoke to the crowd as the team’s official welcome to the city. Also introduced were celebrity investors Olympians Edwin Moses and “King of the Beach” Sinjin Smith.

“We wanted a name that reflects our city,” said Colleen Craig. “In order to accomplish that, a city-wide naming contest was conducted, returning well over 1,000 submissions with one that stood out to us the most – the Atlanta Vibe.

“Having a name that resonates with our fan base and our city matters to us as we look to become a staple that is Atlanta professional sports,” Craig continued.  “The name Vibe represents the energy, culture, individual and collective personalities that make up our city.”

Red was selected as a primary color due to its power and strength, and in deference to the other Atlanta professional sports teams’ colors. The red is represented in the strong and bold classic ‘A’. The ice blue of the Vibe reflects a more contemporary and clean feel. They are integrated in design to reflect the integration of traditional and new, the Vibe with the city of Atlanta, and the community engagement of the vision. This is Atlanta’s team.

Our logo design is Atlanta. The A is pointed to represent the capital of the South. The V is our vibe – it’s cool, it’s contemporary, and it runs right through “The A” – with intertwined branches that resemble the interconnected highways and communities throughout our city.

The franchise is one of the first seven teams set to play in the inaugural season of the Professional Volleyball Federation (PVF) in February 2024. The PVF is set on bringing real, professional volleyball to North America, focusing on providing a professional experience for the world’s top athletes, including livable wages for every single player and professional-grade facilities for every team in the league.

The team will play home games at Gas South Arena in Gwinnett County, Georgia, located just 40 minutes outside of Downtown Atlanta. Gas South Arena is the centerpiece of Gwinnett County’s Gas South District, which also includes a convention center and theater, and will seat over 10,000 in the setup for Atlanta Vibe matches.

In the four months ahead of the official naming announcement, the Vibe brought in renowned head coach Todd Dagenais, signed the first ever PVF athlete to a contract by bringing in AVCA standout Leah Edmond, and rounding out the team with a full roster of some of the world’s top talent.
