Atlanta United gain much needed 4-0 win against Colorado

Coming off a 3-1 loss to Charlotte FC on Saturday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta United returned home mid week to face the Colorado Rapids.

In front of 42,587 fans, four different players (Thiago Almada, Luiz Araújo, Tyler Wolff and Giorgos Giakoumakis ) scored in Atlanta United’s 4-0 win against the Rapids.

All three of Atlanta United’s Designated Players scored for the second time this season (3/18/23 vs. Portland)

Atlanta controlled the game early and earned a penalty in the eighth minute when Danny Leyva was ruled for a handball inside the 18-yard-box.

Almada took the spot kick and  aimed for the  right corner, but his attempt failed.

Redemption came quick when Almada  found the back of the net capturing the first goal of the night, marking Almada sixth goal of the season and his third from a direct free kick.

At the half Atlanta United was up by 1.

 

In the 80th minute Luiz Araújo netted the 2nd goal making it his third goal of the season

In the 87th minute Tyler Wolff scored his first career MLS goal to put the team ahead 3-0.

The game winning goal in the 90th minute was scored by Giorgos Giakoumakis making it the 4th goal of the night and Giakoumakis sixth goal of the season.

Brooks Lennon recorded his third multi-assist game of his career. Lennon is second on the team with six assists, while Quentin Westberg recorded his first clean sheet with Atlanta United. It was the team’s third clean sheet of the season.
