Giorgos Giakoumakis netted the game-winner early in the first half , making it his second goal of the season.
Atlanta defense produced its second clean sheet of the season in a physical match that saw 10 yellow cards shown.
The result marked Atlanta United’s first regular season win against the Red Bulls and put Atlanta in second place in the Eastern Conference table.
Franco Ibarra won a career-high 15 duels, which also ties the most for a single-match among all MLS players this season.
“Yes. Back to who we are. That was the theme of the week. The players showed who they are today. A team that wants to play always, that shows a lot of bravery to play under pressure.” said Atlanta United head coach Gonzalo Pineda.
Atlanta United returns to action when it travels to face New York City FC April 8 at Yankee Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM.
