Glads fall to Mariners 4-3 in OT

The Atlanta Gladiators returned to home ice, to take on the Maine Mariners for Marvel Superhero Night, at Gas South Arena on Friday night, making the final out-of-division opponent the Gladiators will play this season. The Glads are coming off a three game weekend series against the Reading Royals, winning one out of the three games. Atlanta’s only win in that series was their last game, a 3-2 victory at Santander Arena, in Read- ing, Pennsylvania.

 

The Mariners are coming off of a 5-1 victory over the Orlando Solar Bears on Wednesday night.

Atlanta is 4-4-0-0 against north division foes entering tonight.

In the first period Atlanta Mitch Walinski  scored the first goal of the night marking his 3rd goal of the season.

Midway through the 1st period the Glads set the ice on fire with a power play goal scored by Derek Topatigh assisted by Mike Pelech and Sanghoon Shin.

At the end of the 1st period the Glads led the Mariners 2-0.

Glads continued to fire pass the Mariners in the 2nd period with the 3rd goal scored by Michal Mrazik.

After two periods of play Atlanta maintained the 3-0 lead.

Early one the 3rd period Maine strike back with a vengeance scoring back to back goals, by Alex-Olivier Voyer, and Cameron Askew.  Then midway through the final period Mariners Alex-Olivier Voyer scored another goal to tie the score.

With the game tied 3-3, the game went into a thrilling overtime and in the 2 minute mark Maine scored the final goal to skate away with a 4-3 win.

 

Up Next : Including tonight’s matchup with Maine the Atlanta have nine more games remaining on their regular season. The Glads will face the Savannah Ghost Pirates one more time, Jacksonville Icemen two more times, and five meetings against the Florida Everblades , with a do or die playoff spot on the line.

Atlanta will return to home ice to face the Florida Everblades on March 29. Puck drop at 7:00 PM
