Atlanta Pull Away With Explosive 127-119 win against Golden State

The Hawks returned to State Farm Arena to conclude their three-game home stand on Friday, Mar 17, when the team face Golden State Warriors for their one and only trip to State Farm Arena this season.

In Atlanta’s most recent outing on on Mar 13, Trae Young finished with 41 points on 15-25 shooting from the floor, including a perfect 10-10 mark from the free throw line, seven assists, six rebounds and one steal in 34 minutes of play, marking Young’s 29th career outing tallying at least 40 points and five assists, tied with LeBron James for the third-most such games by any player 24-years-or- younger in NBA history .

 

The Warriors came into the matchup with the third-highest three-point percentage in the league at .385%.

Game Recap

In the first quarter the Hawks gained steam with John Collins scoring 17 points, marking a career- high for points in an opening period.

At one point the score was tied 27-27 Onyeka Okongwu put the the Hawks ahead 34-29.
Trae Young jumpshot lengthen the lead to put the Hawks up by 8 points. At the end of the 1st quarter the Hawks led 39-31.

Early in the 2nd quarter the pace of the game remained rapid with Atlanta leading and Aj pushing the score to 52-43.

 

 

At the half the Hawks continued to lead 71-66.

 

Late in the third quarter the Hawks continue to lead by 5 points. By the end of the quarter the Hawks led 104-96.

In the final quarter with 6 mins remaining on the clock, Golden Sate found their rhythm and narrowed the deficit to 3 points. Young found the basket for a 3 pointer to expand the lead to 119, but it was in the final minutes the Hawks pulled away with a 127-119 win, making it the 23rd time this season the Hawks have held a team to less than .300% from beyond the arc, holding Golden State to 11-40 from deep (.275%).

The Hawks outscored the Warriors 50-27 in bench points, 21-9 on points off of turnovers, and 22-17 in fast break points.


Atlanta had seven double digit scorers for the ninth time this season: Trae Young led the team in scoring and recorded his 122nd career game of 20+ points and 10+ assists, finishing with a team-high 25 points, John Collins captured 22 points and a made season-high tying four threes, in addition to five rebounds, one block and one steal in 29 minutes, marking his 3rd time in his career he’s netted at least 17 PTS in any quarter . Onyeka Okongwu notched 19 points seven rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one steal, Bogdan Bogdanovic, De’Andre Hunter both collected 14 points apiece. AJ Griffin added 12 points, while Dejounte Murray rounded off the scoring efforts with 10 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, in addition to one steal, his 100th of the season, in 37 minutes.

Atlanta improve to 14-5 this season when scoring 125-or-more points and move to 8-1 at home when doing so.
