Hawks win over the Nets

The Atlanta Hawks break the Brooklyn Nets’ winning streak in the regular season. Brooklyn has won the last two matchups against the Hawks but tonight the hawks showed their conference rival what they are made of. On February 26th, 2023 at 3 pm, the Hawks won against the Nets with a Buzzer beater by #11 Trea Young (129-127).

Coming off an impressive win over the Cavaliers on February 24th, the hawks improved their record again tonight. The Hawks began the half by getting nice off-the-board rebounds and getting into a rhythm of excellent ball movement. With the biggest lead of the game, the hawks surpassed the nets by 18 points in the matchup and continued to lead throughout the game. The nets tried their best to keep up with the hawks, but with minor mistakes such as shot clock violations, missed free throws, and slow transitions, the hawks could keep the ball alive. With tonight’s game being close in score, the Interim coach, Joe Prunty made great substitutions throughout the first half and I believe that’s what kept the team high in energy and intensity. The substitutions off the beach seemed to work for tonight’s game. In the post-game interview with the Interim coach Joe Prunty, he stated, “We had an 18-point in the first half but, being in the lead doesn’t always mean a lot in the NBA, with the nets catching up in the second half. We had a good team win, players were making great plays, and #11 young made a big shot to end the game.”

The hawks kept up the nice ball movements to get even nicer executions. In the second quarter as the nets were forced to take a timeout, the hawks were just boiling up. With 10 mins left in the half, the hawks were able to outscore the nets leading 45-29. Fast forwarding to the end of the half, the Hawks played good defensive ball and only allowed the nets to score 28 points. Even with the Nets finding momentum to end the half that didn’t stop the hawks from keeping the lead.

The top scorers for tonight’s game were #11 Trae Young (34 points), #5 Dejounte Murray (28 points), and #13 Bogdan Bogdanovic (22 points). Young not only hit the buzzer-beater to win the game, but he showed pure heart throughout the matchup. Creating space for his teammates is definitely his game, with eight assists. Young makes the game look easy and he proves that with the buzzer beater to end the game and not go into overtime. Murray made big and important plays throughout the matchup, contributing to the team’s drive. Making nice three-pointers and playing great defensive ball. Murray showed his energy, he had time to shine with a nice steal and jam in the second quarter. Murray keeps the team moving when young isn’t in the game. Bogdanovic came in hot off the beach making back-to-back plays. Throughout the back-to-back plays, Bogdanovic knew how to execute the ball and keep a rhythm going, making 4 threes in the first half. Overall, with the team making minor mistakes and letting the nets come back, they kept their heads up and finished strong with a nice win tonight.

The Hawks will return to the State Farm Arena on February 28th in a matchup against the Washington Wizards at 7:30 pm est.
