The NFL has fined the Atlanta Falcons $250,000 and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich $100,000 following a prank call incident involving Ulbrich’s son, Jax, targeting draft prospect Shedeur Sanders. The league cited the Falcons for failing to prevent the disclosure of confidential information distributed to the club in advance of the NFL Draft.
During the 2025 NFL Draft, Jax Ulbrich obtained Sanders’ draft contact number from an open iPad at his father’s home and impersonated New Orleans Saints GM Mickey Loomis in a prank call, falsely informing Sanders that he was about to be selected. The prank, which was recorded and went viral, led to public embarrassment for Sanders, who was eventually selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round.
Jeff Ulbrich stated he was unaware of the incident until after the draft and expressed deep regret over the situation. Both he and his son have personally apologized to Shedeur Sanders and his father, Deion Sanders. The Falcons have accepted the league’s discipline and are reviewing their data security protocols to prevent future incidents.
The NFL continues to investigate other prank calls made to draft prospects during the event, though they are not believed to be connected to this incident.
