ATLANTA — The Atlanta Hawks announced today a significant shift in their basketball leadership structure, beginning with the launch of a formal search for a new President of Basketball Operations. The organization has hired Sportsology Group, an industry leader in strategic advisory services for professional sports franchises, to lead the search process.
As part of this transition, the team also confirmed that Landry Fields has been relieved of his duties as general manager. Effective immediately, Onsi Saleh has been promoted to general manager of the Atlanta Hawks and will oversee all day-to-day basketball operations.
The Hawks are coming off a 40-42 (.488) regular season record and missed the playoffs for a second consecutive year, prompting the organization to re-evaluate its basketball operations structure.
“Every offseason we evaluate how we operate and ways we can improve our organization,” said Tony Ressler, Principal Owner of the Atlanta Hawks. “As we enter this pivotal offseason, we have several complex decisions ahead of us, and we are committed to providing the human and financial resources needed to ensure that we navigate these decisions with a high level of precision and foresight. Adding an accomplished, senior-level leader to provide strategic direction and structure as well as partnering with Onsi and our talented front office is a top priority.”
Ressler also acknowledged the contributions of Fields, who was promoted to general manager in 2022 after joining the Hawks as an assistant general manager in 2020.
“I would genuinely like to thank Landry for his leadership during his time with us. Landry made our franchise better and left contributions that have positioned us for growth. I am grateful for his dedication and wish him success in his next endeavor,” Ressler added.
Saleh, who joined the Hawks in May 2024, brings a wealth of championship-caliber experience to his new role. Prior to his arrival in Atlanta, he spent three seasons with the Golden State Warriors, including during their 2022 NBA Championship campaign, most recently serving as vice president of basketball strategy & team counsel.
Before his time with the Warriors, Saleh held multiple positions with the San Antonio Spurs over a five-year span, concluding his tenure as director of strategy & process and chief of staff. Both organizations are widely respected for their operational excellence and team-building acumen, positioning Saleh as a rising front-office executive in the NBA.
The Hawks’ decision to bring in Sportsology Group signals a commitment to strategic alignment at the highest levels of basketball leadership. As the franchise seeks to return to contention in the Eastern Conference, this offseason marks a critical turning point for the organization’s future.
Further updates on the Hawks’ search for a new President of Basketball Operations will be shared as the process unfolds.
