Atlanta United Shut Out 3-0 by Philadelphia Union on the Road

Atlanta United couldn’t find its rhythm Saturday night at Subaru Park, falling 3-0 to the Philadelphia Union in a match defined by injuries, missed chances, and timely goals from the home side.

The Union opened the scoring in the 27th minute following a chaotic sequence in Atlanta’s box. After multiple failed clearances, the ball fell to Kai Wagner, who drove toward the end line and sent in a low cross. Another deflection landed at the chest of Quinn Sullivan, who calmly volleyed it onto his right foot before finishing into the far corner to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead.

Atlanta’s night quickly worsened with two injury setbacks just minutes apart. Defender Stian Gregersen was forced off in the 31st minute, followed by midfielder Tristan Muyumba three minutes later. Luis Abram and Mateusz Klich came on in relief, but the early substitutions disrupted Atlanta’s flow.

Philadelphia doubled its lead shortly after halftime. Capitalizing on a midfield turnover, Wagner found Bruno Damiani, who laid it off to Mikael Uhre. The forward delayed just long enough to play in an overlapping Danley Jean Jacques, who surged up the left wing and buried his shot in the 50th minute to make it 2-0.

Six minutes later, the Union went down to 10 men when Jovan Lukic was shown a second yellow for impeding a quick Atlanta free kick. The visitors nearly pulled one back moments after, earning a set piece just outside the box, but Alexey Miranchuk’s curling effort flew just wide.

Atlanta began to mount pressure in the final 30 minutes. In the 65th minute, Pedro Amador’s low cross forced Union goalkeeper Andre Blake into a quick reaction, but Giorgos Giakoumakis’s replacement, Latte Lath, couldn’t steer the rebound on frame. Saba Lobjanidze struck the crossbar from inside the area later in the half, and Miranchuk forced a sharp save from Blake with a close-range header.

Despite Atlanta’s push, it was Philadelphia who had the final say. Tai Baribo iced the match with a clinical finish in the 84th minute to seal all three points for the Union.

With the loss, Atlanta United drops to 2-4-3 (9 points) on the season. The Five Stripes will look to rebound next Saturday, April 26, when they travel to face Orlando City SC at Inter&Co Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. ET.
