Lady Hawks and Becca’s Closet Help Teens Shine at ‘Say Yes to the Prom Dress’ Event

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Lady Hawks teamed up with Becca’s Closet Greater Atlanta on Saturday to host their third annual ‘Say Yes to the Prom Dress’ event at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta. Nearly 40 underprivileged teens from local high schools had the opportunity to select free prom dresses, shoes, and accessories while receiving hair and makeup tips from local beauty experts—all to help them feel confident and radiant on their big night.

“I’m grateful to Becca’s Closet Greater Atlanta and our local vendors for helping us create lasting memories for these teens,” said Atlanta Hawks Principal Owner Jami Gertz. “It feels great to put a smile on their faces and inspire confidence that will stay with them well beyond prom night.”

The Lady Hawks, a women’s auxiliary group of wives, significant others, and mothers of Hawks players, coaches, and basketball operations staff, are dedicated to uplifting the Atlanta community. Through ongoing partnerships, they focus on empowering women and youth throughout the city.

Volunteers from the Atlanta Hawks, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, and Shamea Shares joined forces to make the event a success. Various stations, supported by local vendors such as WM Events, Ulta Beauty, Spanx, and Kendra Scott, provided students with shoes, purses, jewelry, and beauty essentials. Additionally, stylists and makeup artists from Woo Cosmetics, Playhouse Beauty, KG for Hair, and Lisa Pope offered expert tips to help teens get prom-ready.

“Becca’s Closet Greater Atlanta is thrilled to partner with the Lady Hawks to make one of the most memorable nights of students’ lives possible,” said Tiffany Cadogan, representing Becca’s Closet. “For 14 years, we’ve witnessed the joy and relief that comes when students find the perfect dress—it’s an incredible moment.”

The event was just one of the many ways the Hawks celebrated Women’s History Month. On March 8, the team hosted Women’s Empowerment Night, presented by Your Atlanta Area BMW Centers, during their win against the Indiana Pacers. The evening honored women’s contributions to the Hawks organization, the game of basketball, and the city of Atlanta. It also featured the She LEADS Class of 2025 graduation, and the first 5,000 fans received a complimentary belt bag giveaway.
