Purdue’s and Georgia Tech’s Collier Named Head Coaches for Inaugural PVF All-Star Match

Two of the most respected figures in volleyball, Dave Shondell of Purdue and Georgia Tech’s Michelle Collier, have been selected as head coaches for the inaugural Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) All-Star Match. The highly anticipated event is set for Saturday, February 22, at Fishers Event Center near Indianapolis and will be nationally broadcast on CBS.

Shondell, a legend in the sport, has spent 23 seasons at Purdue, amassing 485 career victories with a .675 winning percentage (485-233). He holds the title of the all-time winningest coach in Purdue history and led the Boilermakers to a 27-7 record last season — their best performance since the 1980s.

“I am honored to be part of this inaugural event in Indianapolis,” Shondell said. “The PVF continues to create a first-class opportunity for our best athletes to compete at the professional level in America. It will be a remarkable experience to be part of this All-Star match and enjoy the festivities with the players and fans. It’s extremely gratifying to witness the explosion of our sport, and I know the fans in Indy will show up to support this event.”

Under Shondell’s leadership, Purdue has produced over 20 All-America selections and more than 80 All-Big Ten honorees. His tenure has also seen a surge in fan engagement, with 94% of the program’s sold-out matches occurring since he took charge in 2003.

On the opposing sideline will be Michelle Collier, who just completed her 11th season as head coach at Georgia Tech. Collier boasts a 258-145 career record, including 218 wins with the Yellow Jackets. She has guided Georgia Tech to postseason play in each of the past five NCAA seasons, highlighted by a historic Elite Eight run in 2021 — the best finish in program history.

“I am grateful to the PVF leadership for this opportunity and excited to be a part of this event,” Collier said. “The PVF has done a tremendous job growing the game of volleyball and providing a next-level opportunity for players to continue their career goals. I am looking forward to being around these amazing women and can’t wait to see them in action from the sidelines.”

Collier’s playing career at the University of South Florida ranks among the most impressive in NCAA history. She remains fifth in Division I history with 2,729 career kills and holds multiple records in USF’s program history, including career kills and digs.

The PVF All-Star Match will showcase elite talent from across the league, featuring top players from all PVF teams. The event kicks off at 1:30 p.m. ET at Fishers Event Center, home to the league’s newest franchise, the Indy Ignite.
