Atlanta United picked up a 2-2 draw on Saturday night at Toyota Stadium behind goals from Giorgos Giakoumakis and Saba Lobjanidze. Thiago Almada tied the club’s single-season record with his 14th assist on the season.
In the final minutes Atlanta created a couple of chances down the stretch but were unable to find a winner late.
Giakoumakis scored his 13th goal of the season, while Lobjanidze made his first MLS start and scored his second MLS goal.
“I think we did enough to have won this game, but at the same time we made a few mistakes that didn’t help us to collect the three points. I’m very upset at the first goal. I think 99 out of 100 times that is called a foul. But we caught the one percent of the sample tonight.” said Head Coach Gonzalo Pineda.
Earlier this week it was announced that Luis Abram, Thiago Almada, Derrick Etienne Jr., Giorgos Giakoumakis, Saba Lobjanidze, Miles Robinson and Efraín Morales have received call-ups from their respective national teams for the September 4-12 FIFA window.
Atlanta United (11-8-9, 42 points) returns to action after the FIFA international break when it hosts Inter Miami CF at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m ET
