The Skyhawks win 124-96 to the Lakeland Magic Saturday (New Year’s Eve), at the Gateway Center Arena.
College Park had a phenomenal first half with the lead of 63-51. Though the team seemed to struggle with minor fouls and missed shots throughout the half.
Skyhawks head coach, Steve Gansey, said he believes with talented players his focus was to just trust the game plan and for the team to trust each other. “Teams are always going to make runs, but it’s about how we respond to them,” said Gansey.
Defensively the Skyhawks shifted throughout each half with a significant amount of effort causing the Magic to only score 13 points in the third quarter.
“In the first half we didn’t know who the key shooters were on the team but once we locked in to see who their leading scorers were, we were more focused and aware which helped us come back to defeat them in the second half. Overall, we did a really great job closing the game out” said Brandon Williams #5. (Tonight’s leading scorer with 20 points)
The Skyhawks will see the Lakeland Magic again on Monday, January 2nd. Head Coach Steve Gansey stated that each game is a repeat, “we must play a defensive game again and focus on our adjustment with making the clean ups that need to be made”.
