Hawks Deliver Bucs 1st L of the Season

The Atlanta Hawks pulled off a miraculous 117-98 win over the undefeated Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night at State Farm Arena.

“We got more aggressive in the third and fourth quarter and were able to beat the best team in the league tonight,” said Hawks coach Nate McMillan said.

At the end of the 1st period Atlanta found itself down 14 points.

In the third Atlanta gained momentum and outscored the Bucs 37-22.

Atlanta held Milwaukee to 13-40 shooting from deep (.325), including just 5-29 (.172) from the second quarter through the end of the game.

This is the third time this season Atlanta has overcome a deficit of 10-or-more points to then win by 10-or-more points

In the absence of Ice Trae Dejounte Murray led the team in scoring 25 points and 11 assists, in addition to eight rebounds and a game-high tying three steals in 32 minutes.

AJ Griffin became the first rookie in the NBA this season to finish a game with 20+ points and 3+ steals, notching career highs of 24 points, four rebounds and three steals in 31 minutes as a reserve, while Justin Holiday added a season-high 14 points.

 

“Offensively, I thought we had really good movement, made them work and were patient and we didn’t settle for the quick shots like we did in the first game against them.” McMillian said.

The Hawks will continue their four-game homestand on tonight when the , team face the Utah. This will be the Jazz first and only trip to State Farm Arena this season.
