Atlanta Falls Short 2-1 to Red Bulls

Ahead of Wednesday match Atlanta drew 2-2 against FC Cincinnati, with Andrew Gutman scoring in his second-consecutive game to secure a point for the Five Stripes.


In front of a crowd of 42,555 fans Atlanta returned home on Wednesday for a matchup against New York Red Bulls at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.


In the beginning minutes of the first half Red Bulls’ Lewis Morgan struck a goal.


In the 15th minute New York doubled the lead with a goal scored by Red Bulls’ Homegrown defender John Tolkin. 

In the end Atlanta couldn’t overcome a two-goal deficit even with Josef Martínez scoring his 100th goal across the MLS regular season and playoffs faster than in player in MLS history.

 


Atlanta (7-10-8, 29 points) travels to face Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field on Sunday, Aug. 21 (5:30 p.m., FS1, FOX Deportes, Sports Radio 92-9 The Game, La Mejor).
