On Thursday, defenders Anton Walkes and Fernando Meza spoke with the media prior to their individual workout sessions.
“It’s very weird but what they have setup personally, I think it’s fantastic. They’ve done absolutely great doing all they can. I am very grateful towards what they’ve done and the other players feel the same way. “ Anton Walkes said about the individual workouts. “We are counting our blessings right now. Working with all the rules and all you know the positives and making sure we can move in the right direction.”
Earlier this week, per ESPN Major League Soccer proposed a 20 percent salary reductions due to the current coronavirus pandemic, and possibly resuming the season this summer with all 26 teams playing in Orlando, Florida. Current plans are undisclosed however we may see Five Stripes heading to Florida as early as June 1 for training camps.
Other proposals have included teams playing a tournament-style competition in four different cities. There’s also the possibility teams could return to their home stadiums for games following the resumption of the season in Orlando.
Major League Soccer has also extended the small group and team training moratorium through, and including, Monday, June 1.
Atlanta United workouts will continue at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground on Friday, May 15.
