Atlanta United announced Monday that it has waived veteran midfielder Mateusz Klich, officially parting ways with the 35-year-old less than a full season into his time with the club. Klich, who joined Atlanta from D.C. United at the start of the 2025 campaign, made 16 appearances this year, including nine starts. His lone assist came in the team’s 4-2 win over FC Cincinnati.
The move opens up a valuable international roster spot for Atlanta United as the club continues to evaluate its squad during a challenging season.
“Mateusz was a true professional during his time with the club,” said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson in a team release. “We thank him for his contributions and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Klich departs Major League Soccer with a total of 79 league appearances, six goals, and 14 assists across three seasons split between D.C. United and Atlanta. The Polish international, known for his work rate and ability to dictate tempo in the midfield, originally made his MLS debut in 2023 following a successful stint with Leeds United in the English Premier League.
Under MLS roster rules, Klich will now go through the league’s Waiver process. If no team claims him during the Waiver Claiming Period — which lasts through 5 p.m. ET on the second business day after league notice — he will become available to all MLS clubs on a first-come, first-served basis.
