ATLANTA (June 24, 2025) — Atlanta United announced Tuesday that midfielder Jay Fortune is expected to miss the remainder of the 2025 MLS season after suffering a mid-foot sprain in his left foot that will require surgery. The club confirmed the injury and stated that a timeline for his return will be provided following the surgical procedure.
Fortune sustained the injury while representing Trinidad and Tobago in Sunday’s final group stage match of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup against Saudi Arabia. He entered the match in the second half, marking his second appearance of the tournament, but went down with the injury in the 76th minute and did not return.
The setback is a significant blow for Atlanta United, which has struggled with injuries and consistency this season. Fortune, known for his work rate and tactical intelligence in midfield, had started to carve out a more prominent role for both club and country before the injury.
Atlanta United (4-9-5, 17 points) will look to regroup and find momentum as it travels to face the Columbus Crew on Wednesday, June 25, at Lower.com Field. The Five Stripes are currently battling to stay competitive in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
The club will provide updates on Fortune’s recovery in the coming weeks.
