The Atlanta Falcons announced on Tuesday the signing of safety Josh Thompson to the active roster. In a corresponding move, the team has released safety Benny Sapp III.

Thompson, a 6-foot, 191-pound defensive back, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars following the 2022 NFL Draft. Since then, he has spent time with the Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, and most recently, the Houston Texans. He has appeared in six NFL games, contributing primarily on special teams.

Before turning pro, Thompson had a solid collegiate career at the University of Texas, where he played five seasons (2017–21). The Texas native made 46 appearances for the Longhorns, recording 109 tackles (79 solo), nine passes defensed, six tackles for loss, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery.
