Atlanta Falcons Youth Fund, Georgia Power & KABOOM! Launch Initiative to Build and Improve Playspaces Across Georgia

ATLANTA — In a powerful collaboration aimed at promoting physical activity and community well-being, the Atlanta Falcons Youth Fund (AFYF), an associate-led initiative of the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, and Georgia Power have announced a new partnership with national nonprofit KABOOM! to enhance recreational spaces for children in Metro Atlanta and throughout the state.

As part of the initiative, two new play structures will be built in the Metro Atlanta area. In addition, the collaboration is launching the Georgia Playspace Refresh Fund, a $400,000 grant program that will provide Georgia communities with up to $25,000 each to renovate and upgrade existing play areas. The fund aims to improve children’s access to safe, engaging environments where they can stay active and develop healthy habits.

Starting today, communities across Georgia can apply for grants at kaboom.org/gagrants. The application window is open through July 10, 2025. Eligible projects may include the creation of community gardens, installation of shading for existing play areas, resurfacing of playgrounds, and upgrades to or repairs of play equipment.

“The Atlanta Falcons Youth Fund is proud to partner with Georgia Power and KABOOM! for this exciting community initiative to build and improve playspaces in Metro Atlanta,” said Chris Millman, Senior Vice President of Community Engagement and Sports Philanthropy for AMB Sports and Entertainment. “This project directly aligns with the fund’s guiding theme of increasing the time kids spend in physical activity, and we look forward to providing new and improved areas for kids to play.”

The first build will take place at Randolf Medlock Park in Stone Mountain, Ga., a high-traffic recreational site that currently lacks a dedicated play area. As the second-busiest park in the area and a hub for youth sports like football, soccer, and basketball, the addition of a new playground will impact more than 900 children, fostering stronger community bonds and encouraging healthy, active lifestyles.

The project launches with a Design Day on May 22, where local children will be invited to sketch their dream playgrounds. These ideas will be used by KABOOM! to guide the playground design process. Representatives from the Falcons, Georgia Power, and KABOOM!—along with Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders and team mascot Freddie Falcon—will join community members to celebrate the kickoff.

“At Georgia Power, we believe that communities we are privileged to serve should be better because we are here,” said Fredie Carmichael, Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Georgia Power. “The Atlanta Falcons and the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation share this commitment to service, and we’re excited to continue to partner with them, as well as KABOOM! Physical activity is incredibly important for young people and we hope that, by providing new or improved playspaces for local children, we are helping fuel healthy childhoods and communities.”

Details about the second playspace build will be announced at a later date.
