More Than 300 Georgia High Schools to Offer Girls Flag Football This Fall Thanks to Falcons, Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation

ATLANTA — In a major milestone for girls sports in Georgia, more than 300 high schools across the state will offer girls flag football programs this fall, thanks to the continued support of the Atlanta Falcons and the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. This spring, the Foundation awarded grants to 304 Georgia high schools to either start a new girls flag football program or enhance an existing one ahead of the 2025 season.

Among those schools, 45 will launch brand-new programs for the 2025 season, marking a significant expansion of the sport’s footprint and a powerful step toward inclusivity and athletic opportunity for high school girls across the state.

The Falcons have long been champions of the sport’s growth, beginning their efforts in 2018 with a pilot program in Gwinnett County involving 19 schools. Their advocacy and collaboration with the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) paid off in 2020 when Georgia became the fourth state to officially sanction girls flag football as a varsity high school sport. By 2024, more than 7,000 girls participated in programs at over 270 high schools statewide.

In a landmark moment for girls flag football nationwide, the Georgia House of Representatives unanimously passed HR 347 in April — a bipartisan resolution led by Rep. Brent Cox and co-sponsored by six other representatives. With support from House Speaker Jon Burns, the resolution urges every high school in the state to implement a girls flag football program. It is the first official piece of legislation in the country to promote the sport’s development at this level.

The list of 45 Georgia high schools launching girls flag football programs in 2025 is a testament to that momentum:
