The Atlanta Falcons stayed in-state for their first-round selection, drafting University of Georgia DE Jalon Walker with the 15th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Known for his explosive athleticism, versatility, and relentless motor, Walker adds immediate juice to a Falcons defense aiming to reclaim its edge under new head coach Raheem Morris. The 6-foot-2, 245-pound linebacker played a pivotal role in Georgia’s dominant front seven, helping the Bulldogs reach multiple College Football Playoffs during his collegiate career.
Walker’s ability to line up off the edge, drop into coverage, and thrive in multiple fronts offers flexibility to a Falcons defense that has lacked a consistent pass rush in recent seasons. He totaled 9.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss over his final two seasons in Athens, showing continued growth as both a playmaker and leader.
Coach Raheem Morris, who returns to Atlanta after a successful stint as defensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams, emphasized Walker’s mentality.
Walker is the latest addition to a Falcons front seven that already features young talent like Troy Andersen and Arnold Ebiketie. With veteran leaders on the roster and a fresh defensive identity in the making, the former Bulldog won’t have to look far for support as he transitions to the NFL.
For Walker, it’s a full-circle moment. The North Carolina native chose Georgia for the big-stage opportunities—and now he’ll be playing on Sundays just 70 miles from where he made his mark.
“Playing in Atlanta is a dream,” Walker said in the press conferencei. “It’s close to home, close to my college family, and I’m ready to work.”
The Falcons will look to continue building on their promising draft class as they head into Rounds 2 and 3 on Friday and Saturday.
