The Atlanta Hawks delivered an electrifying performance, defeating the Utah Jazz 147-134 to complete a season sweep of the series, following a 124-121 victory in Utah on January 7. With four wins in their last five encounters against Utah, Atlanta has been averaging an impressive 126.4 points, 46.8 rebounds, and 33.0 assists in these contests.
Precision from Beyond the Arc
Atlanta’s offensive barrage was in full display as the team scored 140 or more points for the fifth time this season, bolstered by a season-high tying 22 three-pointers. In tonight’s contest, seven Hawks connected on two or more triples, marking just the second game of the season featuring such a prolific display from downtown. The Hawks shot an efficient 54-for-95 from the field (56.8% FG%), including a sharp 22-for-41 from three-point range (53.7% 3FG%), and nailed 17 of 20 free throws (85.0% FT%).
Record-Breaking First Half and Assist Milestones
In an explosive first half, Atlanta poured in 81 points—the third time this season they’ve recorded 80-plus points in a half. This marks the second instance in one week of achieving such a feat, following an 82-point first half against Milwaukee on March 30, 2025. The Hawks also tied a franchise record by knocking down 15 three-pointers in the first half, matching the record set on March 3, 2021, during a game at Orlando.
The team’s unselfish play was evident as they recorded their 37th game of the season with 30 or more assists, tying a season-high with 43 assists in tonight’s win. This performance extended the Hawks’ record for most 30-plus assist games in a single season in the Eastern Conference and marked the first time since January 30, 1993, that Atlanta dished out 43 assists in a regulation game. The Hawks currently average 29.6 assists per game, the second-highest mark in the NBA and the best in the Eastern Conference.
Stellar Performances Across the Roster
Seven Hawks scored at least 10 points in the win, marking the 13th game this season with seven or more players in double figures. Key contributions came from:
• Onyeka Okongwu – 27 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block in 37 minutes, posting his 26th double-double of the season and achieving career-high averages in points (13.2), rebounds (8.8), and assists (2.3).
• Trae Young – 23 points, a game-high 15 assists, 5 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal in 37 minutes, recording his NBA-leading 10th game of the season with 20+ points and 15+ assists, and marking his 48th point/assist double-double—just one shy of tying John Wall for the 15th-most in NBA history.
• Caris LeVert – 21 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench, adding to his solid averages since joining the team.
• Dyson Daniels – In his 73rd game, Daniels recorded 19 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and three steals. The two-time Defensive Player of the Month is on pace to break records, having recorded at least one steal in 49 consecutive games, the longest such streak in the NBA since the 2017-18 season.
• Vit Krejci – Contributed 17 points on a perfect shooting night (6-6 from the field and 5-5 from three) in just 17 minutes, notching his fourth triple of the game and his 150th career three-pointer.
Additionally, former Atlanta Hawks John Collins, now with the Utah Jazz, was welcomed back by enthusiastic chants of “we still love you” from the Hawks fans in the sixth man section, adding an emotional layer to the game.
Road Ahead and Play-In Tournament Implications
With this impressive win, the Hawks are now on the road to finalize the 2024-25 regular season. Their upcoming schedule includes matchups against Orlando (4/8), Brooklyn Nets (4/10), Philadelphia 76ers (4/11), and the final home game on April 13. Once the regular season concludes on April 13, the play-in tournament will kick off from April 15 to 18, just a day before the start of the first round of the playoffs. The Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic are currently battling for the No. 7 seed and the privilege to host the first play-in game, adding high stakes to the final stretch of the season.
With offensive fireworks and record-setting performances, the Atlanta Hawks continue to set the bar high as they approach the postseason.
