The Atlanta Hawks continued their dominant stretch in March, securing a 123-110 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday night. The victory marked Atlanta’s third consecutive win against Charlotte and extended their winning streak to four games. Improving to 5-1 in March, the Hawks have been one of the hottest teams in the Eastern Conference, averaging 125.3 points per game while shooting an efficient .498 from the field.
Defensive Pressure Fuels Hawks’ Success
Atlanta’s defense played a crucial role in the win, forcing 21 Hornets turnovers, which led to 25 points. The Hawks’ relentless pressure resulted in 13 steals, marking their 40th game with 10 or more steals this season—tied with Oklahoma City for the most such games in the NBA. Atlanta currently leads the Eastern Conference with 9.85 steals per game, ranking second in the league.
Bench Dominance Makes the Difference
The Hawks’ reserves overpowered Charlotte’s second unit, outscoring them 57-18. This marked the 43rd game in which Atlanta’s bench outscored its opponent’s reserves. It was also the 20th time this season that the Hawks’ bench scored at least 50 points, the most such games in franchise history since box scores began tracking starters in 1970-71. Atlanta’s bench is averaging 43.3 points per game, leading the Eastern Conference and ranking third in the NBA.
Trae Young’s Historic Night
All-Star guard Trae Young delivered a masterful performance, recording his 39th double-double of the season with 35 points and 12 assists. Young was flawless from the free throw line, going a perfect 21-for-21, making him just the sixth player in NBA history to achieve such a feat with at least 21 attempts.
• The Oklahoma product also reached the 700-assist mark for the third time in the last four seasons.
• With his first steal of the night, Young (483 career steals) surpassed Al Horford for the 15th-most steals in franchise history.
• Young notched his NBA-leading 13th game of the season with at least 30 points and 10 assists, bringing his career total to 90—ranking fourth all-time.
Dyson Daniels Continues Defensive Brilliance
Dyson Daniels made history with yet another defensive showcase, registering four steals for the 23rd time this season—the most in a single NBA season since 2004-05 (Larry Hughes, 23).
• Daniels swiped his 184th steal of the season, passing Mookie Blaylock (183 in 1997-98) for the sixth-most steals in a single season in franchise history.
• He extended his career-long streak of recording at least one steal to 37 consecutive games, the fifth-longest streak in Hawks history.
• With four steals and two blocks in the win, Daniels now leads the NBA in total “stocks” (steals + blocks) with 229 this season.
Daniels finished the night with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a game-high four steals in 34 minutes, extending his streak of scoring 10+ points to 18 straight games.
Caris LeVert Sparks the Bench
Veteran guard Caris LeVert provided a crucial spark off the bench, leading all reserves with 15 points on 5-9 shooting from the field and 4-8 from beyond the arc. He also contributed four rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 26 minutes.
• LeVert has now scored 15+ points in nine games since joining Atlanta.
• He is averaging 16.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while shooting .512 from the field in 13 games with the Hawks.
Looking Ahead
The Hawks won’t have much time to rest as they return home to face the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. With their offense clicking and defense thriving, Atlanta will look to extend its winning streak and continue its push up the Eastern Conference standings.
