Atlanta United Held to Scoreless Draw Against New York Red Bulls, Remain Unbeaten at Home

Atlanta United played to a 0-0 draw against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in front of 42,562 fans. Despite dominating possession and out-shooting New York 11-5, Atlanta couldn’t find the decisive breakthrough goal. The result keeps Atlanta United unbeaten at home in the 2025 season as they look ahead to their upcoming Sunday Night Soccer matchup against Inter Miami CF on March 16.

The match marked a night of debuts and first appearances. Defender Pedro Amador made his season debut with a start, Tristan Muyumba earned his first start of the season, and forward Cayman Togashi made his club debut. However, despite a promising offensive performance, Atlanta was unable to capitalize on key scoring chances.

Atlanta Dominates First Half but Can’t Convert

Atlanta United asserted its attacking prowess early in the first half, creating several scoring opportunities. In the 17th minute, Matt Edwards whipped in a cross from the right side, aiming for Latte Lath at the back post, but the ball narrowly missed connecting with the forward.

Two minutes later, Edwards delivered another dangerous cross that found Latte Lath at the far post. The Ivorian striker placed a strong header on target, only to be denied by Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel, who made a quick reaction save.

In the 22nd minute, Atlanta orchestrated a brilliant sequence of passes to break New York’s high press. Tristan Muyumba threaded a pass to Latte Lath inside the penalty area, who fired a low shot toward goal, but Coronel was once again up to the task, deflecting the attempt to keep the match scoreless.

The pressure continued in the 30th minute when Saba Lobjanidze earned a corner kick for Atlanta. Alexey Miranchuk curled an in-swinging cross to the back post, where Edwards rose to connect with a header, but Coronel smothered the attempt. Just before halftime, Miguel Almirón came close to breaking the deadlock. After Edwards forced a turnover on the right wing, Almirón dribbled away from a defender and fired a low shot, but Coronel made another routine save.

Second Half Stalemate

The second half lacked the same attacking rhythm seen in the first, as both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances. New York was held without a shot on target for the entire match, a testament to Atlanta United’s defensive resilience. However, Atlanta couldn’t capitalize on their strong defensive performance.

In the 68th minute, Edwin Mosquera entered the match to inject pace and creativity into the attack. Mosquera recorded Atlanta’s lone shot on target of the second half in the 75th minute, testing Coronel from the top of the box, but the keeper held firm.

Atlanta had one final chance to claim all three points in the 80th minute when Alexey Miranchuk lofted a ball behind New York’s backline to Almirón. The Paraguayan winger attempted a first-time strike from inside the six-yard box but sent it over the bar and was ultimately flagged offside.

The result leaves Atlanta United (1-1-1, 4 points) unbeaten at home as they now turn their attention to their highly anticipated clash against Inter Miami CF on Sunday, March 16 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. With star power expected from both sides, Atlanta will look to secure its second victory of the season and maintain its home dominance. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
