Trae Young Earns Fourth All-Star Nod, Replacing Giannis for Team Chuck

Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young has been named as an injury replacement on Team Chuck for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, the league announced today. Young will replace Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is sidelined with a left calf strain.

Making his fourth All-Star appearance, Young becomes the 10th Hawk in franchise history to earn an All-Star nod four times, joining names such as Paul Millsap, Al Horford, Joe Johnson, Dikembe Mutombo, Dominique Wilkins, Lou Hudson, Lenny Wilkens, Bob Pettit, and Cliff Hagan. Young has been in exceptional form this season, averaging 23.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and a league-leading 11.4 assists per game in 36 minutes of play. He stands alone as the only player in the NBA posting more than 11 assists per game—outpacing Nikola Jokic by 1.1 assists and Eastern Conference rival Cade Cunningham by 1.9 assists.

In addition to his scoring and playmaking, Young has dished out a league-best 560 assists this season, marking his seventh consecutive season with 500-or-more assists. This remarkable consistency places him alongside legends like Oscar Robertson, Isiah Thomas, Tim Hardaway, and Norm Nixon as one of only five players in NBA history to achieve 500-plus assists in each of his first seven seasons.

Young’s season has also been punctuated by standout performances. He has recorded three games with at least 20 points and 20 assists—tied for the second-most such outings in NBA history and the most since John Stockton’s 1989–90 season. Notably, on January 7, Young delivered a game-winning buzzer-beater from 49 feet, the longest such shot this season and the sixth-longest in NBA history. That buzzer-beater marked his third career game-winner, the most in Atlanta Hawks history.

The dynamic guard also reached a major career milestone during a December 26 win over the Chicago Bulls when he scored his 11,000th career point at just 26 years and 98 days old, making him the second-youngest player in NBA history to do so—and the second fastest in terms of games played, accomplishing the feat in his 436th game.

Young’s leadership has been a driving force for the Hawks, who are averaging 29.2 assists per game—the highest in the Eastern Conference and the third-highest in the NBA. With his innovative passing and ability to elevate his teammates’ play, Young has been instrumental in setting a new pace for the franchise, which is on track to shatter its single-season assists record.

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game is scheduled for Sunday, February 16, at the Chase Center in San Francisco. With his blend of scoring, vision, and clutch performances, Trae Young’s inclusion on Team Chuck promises to add even more excitement to what is expected to be an electrifying showcase of talent.
