College Park Skyhawks Defeat Wisconsin Herd 107-101 in Front of Sold-Out Crowd

 

The College Park Skyhawks improved to 10-6 after a thrilling 107-101 victory over the Wisconsin Herd (9-10) on Saturday afternoon at Gateway Center Arena at College Park. The win came during the Celebrating Black History Game presented by the YMCA of Metro Atlanta.

Jarkel Joiner led the Skyhawks with a standout performance off the bench, knocking down a career-high tying six three-pointers on his way to 23 points, shooting 7 of 12 from the field and 6 of 11 from beyond the arc.

NBA G League Up Next selection Kevon Harris followed closely with 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and one steal in 30 minutes. The Ellenwood, Georgia native entered the game averaging career highs in points, rebounds, assists, and steals across both the Showcase Cup and regular season.

Tony Bradley dominated on the boards, pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds while adding 14 points, two assists, and two steals. This marked his fifth double-double in the last seven games and his ninth of the season.

Seven Skyhawks players scored in double figures, including Nikola Đurišić with 13 points, Dwight Murray Jr. with 12, and both Daeqwon Plowden and Jordan Bowden contributing 10 each.

Wisconsin started strong, jumping to a 14-4 lead after back-to-back triples from Henry Ellenson. They maintained a 29-24 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Murray Jr. and Bradley kept College Park within striking distance, each scoring 10 first-half points, but the Herd carried a 56-50 lead into halftime.

The Skyhawks came out firing in the third quarter with a 17-7 run to take a seven-point lead. However, Wisconsin responded with a 16-5 run, regaining control at 80-74 heading into the fourth quarter.

In a back-and-forth final frame, neither team held more than a six-point lead until the final moments. With 3:33 remaining, Joiner sparked an 8-0 run, including two clutch three-pointers, giving College Park a 99-92 lead with under two minutes left.

Wisconsin cut the deficit to 99-97 with just over a minute remaining, but Harris’s layup and another Joiner triple with 20 seconds left sealed the victory for the Skyhawks. Joiner scored 12 points in the fourth quarter, going a perfect 3 for 3 from deep and 4 for 4 from the field.

The Herd was led by Milwaukee Bucks assignee Chris Livingston, who scored a game-high 26 points. Assignment player Tyler Smith added a 26-point, 10-rebound double-double.

College Park will play three more games at Gateway Center Arena before the All-Star break. They face the Indiana Mad Ants on February 10 and 12 at 7 p.m., followed by a matchup against the defending NBA G League champions Oklahoma City Blue on February 13 at 7 p.m.
