SKYHAWKS WIN NINTH HOME GAME WITH 123-111 VICTORY OVER WISCONSIN HERD

 

The College Park Skyhawks (3-1) extended their dominance at Gateway Center Arena @ College Park with a 123-111 win over the Wisconsin Herd (1-4) on Wednesday. The victory marked the team’s best-ever home start in franchise history, improving their record to 9-1 across both the regular season and the Tip-Off Tournament.

The game, held on ‘Kids Day presented by Planet Fitness,’ featured standout performances from multiple players, including Atlanta Hawks forward Mouhamed Gueye, who delivered a career-high 22 points off the bench.

Key Performances:

•Kevon Harris: The Ellenwood, Georgia native led all scorers with 25 points, adding five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. It marked his third game of the season and 16th of his career scoring 25 or more points.

•Mouhamed Gueye: Coming off the bench, Gueye netted 22 points on an efficient 7-9 shooting, including 4-6 from beyond the arc. He added two rebounds, two steals, and an assist in just 19 minutes, setting a new career-high after previously scoring 20 points against Maine on Dec. 20.

•Keaton Wallace: The Atlanta Hawks two-way guard finished with 21 points, eight assists, and five rebounds, his fourth game this season with at least 20 points, five assists, and five rebounds.

Game Recap:

The Skyhawks opened the game strong, finishing the first quarter with a 36-23 lead. Eight players contributed to the scoring, with Wallace and Brandon Plowden each putting up seven points.

Wisconsin responded in the second quarter with an 18-0 run, led by sharpshooter Jack Gohlke, briefly taking a five-point lead. However, College Park closed the half with a dominant 28-9 run, reclaiming a double-digit lead, 64-50, at halftime.

The Skyhawks maintained control through the third quarter, stretching their lead to as many as 15 points before the Herd cut the deficit to 92-82 entering the final period.

In the fourth quarter, the Herd came within four points after back-to-back threes by AJ Johnson and Stephen Thompson Jr. But the Skyhawks answered with triples of their own, including two from Gueye and one from Jordan Bowden, re-establishing a 10-point cushion that held until the final buzzer.

The Skyhawks head to Long Island for a matchup against the Nets on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. They will return to College Park on Jan. 12 for another ‘Kids Day’ event featuring Bluey, tipping off at 2 p.m.
