The Atlanta Falcons delivered a dominant performance in their 34-7 victory over the New York Giants, extending their lead in the all-time series to 15-12 and marking their fourth consecutive win in the matchup. Fueled by a strong defense and balanced offensive production, the Falcons made a statement in front of 70,404 fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Atlanta’s offense totaled 329 yards, with 127 yards on the ground and 202 through the air. Rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed 18 of 27 passes for 202 yards in his first career start, efficiently managing the game and showcasing his potential. Running back Bijan Robinson led the charge, rushing for two touchdowns and crossing significant milestones, while Darnell Mooney paced the receiving corps with 82 yards.
The Falcons’ defense was equally impressive, holding the Giants to 234 total yards, including just 45 rushing yards, their second-lowest total of the season. Atlanta recorded two takeaways, including multiple pick-sixes in a game for the first time since 1983, cementing their place among the league’s top defensive units.
Offensive Highlights
Bijan Robinson continued to be a force, scoring his ninth and 10th rushing touchdowns of the season—his third multi-touchdown game of the year. With 103 scrimmage yards, Robinson has now recorded at least 100 scrimmage yards in 11 games this season, the second-most in the NFL. He also became the second-fastest player in Falcons history to reach 3,000 career scrimmage yards, achieving the feat in just 32 games.
Wide receiver Darnell Mooney turned in another strong performance, leading the team in receiving yards for the fourth time this season with five receptions for 82 yards. Mooney’s consistency has been a bright spot, as he logged his seventh game with 75 or more receiving yards and notched his 20th reception of at least 20 yards this season, the second-highest total in the league.
Defensive Dominance
Jessie Bates III once again showcased his playmaking ability, intercepting Drew Lock and returning it 55 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. The pick-six was Bates’ third of his career and second as a Falcon, making him one of just six players in franchise history with multiple pick-sixes. Bates now leads the league with a combined total of eight turnovers this season, including four interceptions and four forced fumbles.
Arnold Ebiketie played a key role in Atlanta’s defensive dominance, recording a sack and his first career fumble recovery. Ebiketie’s sack was his fifth of the season, and he is one of only two players (T.J. Watt) to have at least four sacks since Week 13. Linebacker Kaden Elliss also contributed with his first strip sack of the season, setting up excellent field position for the Falcons.
Team Success and Historical Notes
This victory marked the Falcons’ fifth game this season with multiple takeaways, highlighting their ability to capitalize on opponents’ mistakes. Their two pick-sixes made them one of just seven teams in the NFL this year with more than one in a season and one of only two teams to achieve the feat in a single game.
The Falcons’ defensive and offensive balance bodes well for the remainder of the season, with Bijan Robinson continuing to etch his name into the franchise record books. Robinson’s 1,616 scrimmage yards this season make him just the eighth player in team history to surpass 1,600 scrimmage yards in a single campaign and the first since Julio Jones in 2018.
Looking ahead
Atlanta hopes to keep their momentum alive with two games remaining in the regular season. The Falcons will aim to extend their winning streak to three games when they face the Washington Commanders on Dec. 29. With Michael Penix Jr. at the helm and the defense firing on all cylinders, optimism is high in Atlanta as the playoffs inch closer.
